This book is the first in a series following the ups and downs of a regular geek called Jason Danovan. Here’s my three-sentence summary:
This is a humorous novel about a 37 year old geek, Jason, who loses his lifelong job in an insurance cubicle farm and, after exploring the alternatives (drunkard, waster, candlestick maker) decides to go to University to get an IT degree. He is a decent guy, (apart from being hooked on nerd culture and recovering from a gaming addiction) who is completely set in his ways, bogged down by daily life and acceptance of less-than-best. When his separated wife becomes pregnant his life takes on a new turn and Jason has to decide whether he is going to take charge, or just take off.
This is the first in a series following the highs and lows of Jason’s life as he struggles with to come to terms with himself, and what he wants to be when he grows up.
Target Audience
This book is written for all geeks, everywhere. Jason is a regular guy whose passion for computer games is matched with his familiarity with the Internet. You don’t need to know what a LOLcat is to enjoy his antics, though, because Jason lives his life in the real world. And therein lies the problem. The real world is full of people and things that insist on being obstacles in his way. To quote Codex (from The Guild) “…You can’t log off from your own life. ”
And now – the Audiobook!
Through the writing and the editing I always held onto the thought that this was a story I wanted to share. I’m looking to a Literary Agent and hopefully the book will be published. But in the meantime you can follow Jason’s antics twice a week on a Monday and Friday on the “Turning Left” podcast, hosted on Podbean.com.
I wrote the book in short chapters because that seemed the best way to present the story, and this has translated well into short, humourous podcasts. Each chapter is between 7 – 9 minutes long with an introduction and conclusion from our sponsors, British Radioweb Entertainment Worldwide. Every 5 chapters there is an omnibus (the first has already been released).
