I love the web!
I have made many great friends via the Internet. Some through the many social media sites I frequent and some through the videos I’ve made.
Video interviews
I have also had the pleasure of interviewing some wonderful people. Many of these are written interviews (like this one with author P J Haarsma and producer/writer Kim Evey) but I have done some video interviews, too, with the writer/actor/producer Felicia Day (see below), Emmy Award-winning Director Sean Becker and writer/gamer/radio host Cricket Lee.
Web Series – Evil League of Evil Applications Processing Office: now with added Award!
After anticipating and then watching Dr Horrible, the award-winning webseries by Joss Whedon, I was inspired to create my own webseries. It’s based around my interpretation of the admin side of the Evil League of Evil. Every organisation has their office-based dramas, and some are more evil than others…
The ‘Evil League of Evil -Application Processing Office’ takes a look behind the scenes at Dark Horses empire of evil, and we see how Dr Horrible’s paper application is treated with the utmost professionalism by Evil WorldofHiglet (yes, we all have an evil twin).
Season 1 takes place around the timeframe of Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog and follows the events from the beginning of Act I, where Dr Horrible tells his webcam he has applied to the Evil League of Evil (ELE), to just after the ending when he becomes a member of the ELE. The plan was to fill in the gaps about how his application was being processed and the reaction in the ELE to Dr Horrible’s antics (e.g. his ill-thought-out attack on Captain Hammer on the bridge).
I have put the scripts together (yes – there were scripts!) in a PDF that you can download: ele-applications-office-season-1
Recently awarded the ‘Best non-ELE vid award’ in the ‘Horrible Awards’, the judges had this to say about the webseries:
This is very difficult to judge in conventional vid terms because it’s very nearly static apart from the moving hands, which almost become characters. There are no special effects or transitions but the script is absolutely hilarious, delivered in a Northern British accent which perfectly lends itself to the dry, snarky humour.
Despite the lack of action, the script delivers on every level and ensures that the audience becomes involved in the narrative and, crucially, is not patronised but invited into the world of the ELE Applications Processing Office.
I’m interested in feedback so please leave a comment on this post and I will respond. Enjoy!

Act II Evil WoH is amazed to hear that Gogglehead has made it through to the Assessment round and makes preparations to summon the ‘three horsemen of the nerdpocalipse’. Act III Evil WoH takes extreme delight in relaying the reaction to Dr Horrible’s attempt to attack Captain Hammer with his Freeze Ray and explains that she will be sending out the Death Warning to him asap. And the news that Evil WoH is going to apply to the ELE, too. Favourite quote: “Captain Hammer! They should have called him Captain Tightpants! It was hardly decent hmmmm..” |

Act IV After Gogglehead’s attempt on Captain Hammer and his subsequent Death Warning the surveillance on his Lab is going slowly with no hint of what he might be planning. And we hear that Johnny Snow might be getting the dreading Form Zero… Favourite quote: “…no more Ass 1, it’s Form Zero all the way now…” |

Act V Evil WoH appears to be devastated by the death of what’s-her-name and we find out that Gogglehead only needs to send in an amended application to get into the ELE now. Favourite quotes: “I can haz 100 % cheese”, “…it’s going to be a rubber hoof stamp exercise this time…” Keyword: Nemesissess |

Act VI In the afterglow of Dr Horrible’s glorious ascension into the ranks of the Evil League of Evil, Evil WoH recounts the action in the office as they cheered him through. She also has an interesting prize from someone…. Favourite quote: “I mean, he’s got what he wanted, hasn’t he?”

Evil WorldofHiglet’s Application to ELE Evil WoH makes a hesitant video application to her own organisation, and thanks Bad Horse for directing all the video applications to her inbox. Favourite quote: “Now for Evil Hours this year I have 1040 and I have the Form EH2008 to back that up.” (And I do have the form.) |
